Don't feel bad about it.  Camera hot shoes are pretty much ISO
compatible, such that modern flashes can be triggered and fired
by all modern cameras. The only non-ISO contacts are for things
like the TTL "squelch" signal and the "smart" data signals that
tell the flash where to zoom for what focal length lens, and
such.  The basic contacts, like ground and trigger are pretty
much universal.
