Soooo...

20 years ago I needed to replace my Mamiya/Sekor
DLX500. I went to the largest camera store in Philly,
which stocked Nikon, Canon, Pentax, and Minolta, and
shopped slowly and carefully.

In the price range I was interested in, there was the
Nikon N2000, the Canon AE-1 Program, the Minolta X370,
and the Pentax Super Program.

The Pentax was the best of the bunch by far,
=especially= in value for money.

Fast forward 10 years...time for autofocus. The
available cameras were the Canon A2E (EOS-5), Nikon
N8008, and Pentax PZ-1. The Canon was nice but
enormous, and that was a problem because I like to
hike with my camera. It was close between the 8008
and the PZ-1, but again the Pentax won in value for
money. I added a PZ-1p a couple of years ago.

So, now I have an investment of 3 bodies and 5 lenses,
and I =really= like them. I haven't been ready to
fork over the cash for a D, and at this point I plan
to continue to shoot film while I wait for the D
successor. I'm content and in no hurry, and I very
much want to stick with the brand.

My =only= complaint about shooting Pentax:
occasionally I would like to rent a lens (e.g an f/2.8
long zoom), and nobody rents them for Pentax--only N
and C.
