Hi Jens
I assume you are using Windows 2000 or Windows XP on the computer and that
you can connect your portable hard disk to the computer via USB or Fire wire
right?

Yes "CMD" is the commando interpreter from Windows and "ren" is a dos short
command for rename.
Start is your "Start button" for accessing programs and other things under
Windows and there you go to run and
type cmd to open that window.
But in your case, it is a misnamed directory not a file, so you would have
to use "rd /s" to get rid of all
directories or simply reformat the drive after having copied the good files
elsewhere. Be careful with those commands
to execute them on the right drive letter (for ex f: (your external disk)
please!

greetings
Markus
