Bob, Don't be ashamed to call it 'soccer' on the grounds that the Americans have stolen 'football' for that daft dressing-up game they play :-) It's supposed to come from a public school contraction of 'Association Football' as opposed to 'Rugby Football'. Hence we get 'soccer' and 'rugger', which is even more English than before. Chris
