We have a very strange idea over on this side of the border that a person is
presumed innocent until proven guilty. False arrest is actionable. The guy
could have used the chain saw to cut up a deer or something. One does not have
to assume human blood, in fact sane people would not.

I'd suggest reading the actual story.
Thet detained the guy for over two hours, trying to find some
reason for keeping him out (an outstanding warrant somewhere, etc.).
Absent that, and because the guy is a US citizen, they really
didn't have much of an excuse for refusing him entry.
I read the actual story.
I was just being tongue-in-cheek, using hyperbole to make a point, all
the while attempting to make a bit of humour.
I don't know about the US of A, but here in Canada, when a guy is
found with weapons covered in blood, that's pretty much enough to at
least hold him for 24 hours to investigate if he's been involved in a
crime. Of course, after 24 hours, he can file a writ of habeous
corpus, and be released. But the cops can always think of something
to charge him with, even if it's "having a bad hair day", to keep him
in longer while they investigate.
I know this was at a border crossing, but I can't believe that the
crossing guards couldn't come up with something to keep him while they
called the cops to come get him.
This "we had no choice, we had to let him in" thing is a pile of crap.
They f***ed up, is what they did. Big time.
cheers,
frank
