<snip sad, but not uncommon, story>

Yes, there are people who use the fear of negative feedback to try to
get a post-purchase discount this way. My policy is to offer full refund
(less shipping) or nothing. It's sad that it's come to this but there's
not much else you can do.

Yes, that's generally the way to go. There are buyers who try to get things
for free or too discounted, post auction.

[Snipped two boring stories about ebay I was going to share. One as buyer,
one as seller, but I decided they were too boring.]

If the price seems reasonable accept it as is, otherwise return it and get a
full refund. The seller may not go for a discount, and there is no reason they
have to -- the rules clearly state that auctions are final, which means no
post negotiation. Some will do it, but a lot won't. However, many will do a
full
refund. But most sellers make one pay for shipping the item back. There's
really no ebay rule for that, so they do. Personally, if I offer a refund, I
also
offer to pay for return shipping. But so far, it's never come to that. And if
the shipping was really high, I might not.
