Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that only Pentax used the .PEF extension on it's RAW files, surely that's indication enough.
I don't actually own a Pentax digital cam, so if you say so... Maybe it's not actually Pentax themselves that refer to the files as RAW... And if they don't, but always use (e.g.) PEF, I fully agree with them, and once again, I take this as evidence that their engineers actually are quite competent.
