Joe,
There is a Pentax Function [F12] to set the rewind operation.
You set this to a 3 and this enables the Mid Roll Counter/Change (?)
(MRC).
What you do is note the exposure count on the LCD. I used a Sharpie
to write a 32 on my roll when the counter said 31. The manual says to add
one or two to be safe. You then rewind the film by pressing in on the
rewind button below the door latch.
When you go to reload this particular roll, before you close the
back (easier if you do it before you put the film in) you press the green
exposure button and turn the select dial to the desired number. Then when
you close the door the camera will advance the film until the desired number
is displayed in the LCD.
This way you can do numerous rolls if you so desire. I will be
getting back my roll of slides today that contains a mid roll change. I
will let you know how it did.
As a side note. Before the first exposure of each role - if data
imprinting is enabled - it will put the roll number and ISO of the film
between the sprocket holes. My particular first roll said roll number 003
