Gleaned from one of the Canon lists I'm on: Read an interesting side-story in the Dutch CameraMagazine (written by Erwin Puts, Leica adepts might know him), about the chip used in the new Mamiya ZD (36x48mm), from Dalsa (Canadian, (once?) owned by Philips), being a full-time (FT) design, which does not require micro- lenses for the same light-sensitivity, and is hence much better suited for (extreme) wide-angle lenses. (currently largest wide angle is a 35mm, but 26mm is in the works) http://www.dalsa.com/pi/products/DSC.asp
One thing you have to say about Erwin is that his ideas certainly give you something to think about regardless of whether or not you agree with him. I want to read his article again.
