I haven't checked the K but I suspect it's constructed of more aluminium than brass? I've owned both versions simultaneously and I never really noticed a difference. The A50/1.2 performs pretty nicely on the *ist D though surprisingly the A50/2.8 macro seems to snap into focus (visually) a little more obviously (maybe because it's so damn sharp wide open?). If you have an A50/1.4, A50/2.8 or a SMCT55/1.8 I could produce some direct comparison shots for you tomorrow?
