I use the FG grip also. Pentax strongly advises in =not= using the NiMH batteries. I
use the Ray-O-Vac
alkalines in mine and have had absolutly zero problems.

I wrote an email to Pentax USA asking about the use of rechargable Alkalines in the
FG. There response is

Although we have no official test data to present, the factory has deemed
the use of rechargeable alkaline batteries to be safe with the Battery Pack
FG. We have heard of no adverse affects in using these batteries.
