another ist-Ds question

Hi Guys

When using the ist-Ds with K and M series lenses do I have aperture priority 
(AV) mode as well as manual available. If so, do I need to press the AE lock 
button to correctly meter in AV and is there any way to tell if my setting 
is correct in manual? I have set the PF to allow non-A lens operation. The 
owners manual could be much clearer in this regards.
