if this is really the filter you wanted (aside from rattling), just fix it.
it takes 1 minute, at most, if i understand correctly the problem.

basically, the retaining ring that holds the glass in place is lose, you can 
tighten it up and the filter is gonna be like new. i got one like that from 
adorama a couple of weeks ago (b&w, "ex"), and did it with two screwdrivers 
(kinda like inprovised spanner wrench, since i don't have one).
