if you're using your MZ-S, i suggest trying it on P mode with multisegment
metering first to prove that it isn't good enough. Pentax AF isn't good
enough most of the time, so you probably need to be in MF mode. shooting B&W
or color print will also make the exact exposure less critical. i wouldn't
bother with slides except on low contrast days.

I'm pretty anal about protecting my lenses and keeping them clean. I'm
lazy and don't like cleaning them any more than I have to so my caps are
on unless I'm looking through the viewfinder. That battery issue never
bothered me.
