I have the A*85/1.4 (not AF so it's slightly different optically) and the 77/1.8 LTD (in black of course :-) The 77mm is extraordinarily small and very sharp, the 85mm is way larger and the difference in FL is there but it's not very significant. So I generally base my selection of the type of shooting I'll be doing and how long I need to be lugging about the kit. I tend to use my 85 when I'll be stationary and in very low light though the 77mm does a great job in low light too. The size and weight difference can be emphasized enough though, do try to check the pair out together before you make a commitment. The 31LTD and 77LTD do make a great pair though, pity there isn't a WA in the range.
