Yes, it spreads it more. It also softens it. I always use a diffuser and avoid pointing the flash straight. Remember, there is a great difference between the FOV of a 18 and a 24mm lens.
I'm talking about bigger rooms like you meet at concerts or other events or in large restaurants for example.
You may run out of juice in this case. Kostas
