Nowhere near as many people disapprove of leather shoes as would react
negatively to the cat hat. Meaning that his comment is valid in a lot of
cases, even though not (as you pointed out) in all.
Bottom line?
I've never had a shoe for a beloved pet.
I've had cats for pets, for over 18 years. Each!
You do get sentimentally attached...
