The ways are many and various. A few specific examples I can recall are certain PUG entries inspiring me to get both the Tamron 90mm macro and the FA 50mm f/1.4 (thanks Bruce). The PDMLs are bad for this as well - I loved Butch's FA 300mm and Cesar's 31mm limited (I think). The DPReview boards and Pbase's camera/lens database are other good places to get ideas for new enablements. I found my fisheye on Pbase, not to mention great samples from the Tam 28-75mm f/2.8.
