Doesn't need much of a change to sofware to make a lens not work properly.
You could even have both types, with an interrogater. "Are you a Canon
lens?" If yes, behave this way, if not behave that way.
The nice thing about being a manufacturer is that you can do pretty much
whatever you like with your product line.
If Sigma doesn't want to licence their product with Canon, it's not Canon's
fault if their equipment doesn't work right on Canon equipment, especially
since Canon has 20 years of perfect backwards and forwards compatability,
proving that they don't have problems making stuff work.
