I've told this story before, but I will again, as it's been a while, and there've been many new members of late. When I was a kid, I wanted a Spotmatic. Couldn't afford one, so I got a Praktica in about 1970 or 72, because they were m42, and I figured I could use any lenses on a Spotmatic if I ever got one. I got my Praktica stuff stolen, and never really got back into it in a big way, except that I did buy another m42 Praktica body and Zeiss Jena 2.8 50mm lens, and that was it. Then they got stolen. Then, about 7 years ago, my late father saw an SP500 at a yard sale for $20Cdn. Knowing how much I wanted a Spottie, and appreciating cameras himself, he picked it up. It came with the Tak 2.0 55mm and a pre-set f3.5 200mm. The meter appeared not to work, even though there was a battery in it. Well, Dad's eyes were starting to fail a bit, so he couldn't really use it, so gave it to me. I took a look at the battery, and it turned out that the plastic collar was on backwards, and once put in properly, the meter worked fine. Which it still does to this day. So, it was only 7 or 8 years ago, but that was my first Pentax: an SP500. cheers, frank -- "Sharpness is a bourgeois concept." -Henri Cartier-Bresson
