All of the comments on card types etc are really interesting, but
getting back to Shel's original question.....

Definitely price.

The DS will do everything I want and while things such as hyper shift
and auto white balance bracketing would be nice, I can get away
without them. The SD/CF debate is pretty much irelevant in my case -
actually it would be nice if the DS took xD cards, then I could use
the cards out of my Fuji P&S (anyone know of an SD/xD adapter?).

If the cameras were the same price, it would be a "toss up". I'd
probably go for the D although the larger LCD monitor of the DS might
push me in that direction (aging eyes.....).

Overall, I don't think I would have been better served by the D - as I
said, the DS does everything I want; the D would do the same, just a
bit differently in some functions.

Cheers
