The disadvantages of the ZX-M is that it uses a Pentamirror instead of a
pentaprism.  This is not as bright, so Pentax made the image smaller (.77x
magnification) to make up for this.  Another disadvantage to the
pentamirror is that dust can get inside, but it's pretty easy to clean on
the ZX-M.  However, the ZX-M screen is designed to make focusing with
smaller apertures easy.  The focus aids don't black out until about F8, so
it's a breeze to focus a F4 or F5.6 lens on the ZX-M compared to older
cameras like the ME.  This may be an advantage when using M42 lenses on the
camera.

BTW, Zenit still makes a M42 SLR, available new.  However, you'd probably
be better off doing a CLA to your screw mount Pentax's.
