I agree with Isaac.  With my Coolpix 990, it eats up standard AA's quickly.
However, I purchased two sets of 1600mah NiH rechargeables and they last
quite a long time.  I also use a 64 mb card with some compression and get
about 70 images on it.  You saw it digital at it's worst.  I find that for
snaps, it works very well.  It hasn't replaced my film cameras at all, but
it does have a niche.
