I don't have a cdrom, only a burner and a dvd. Strangely the cheapest cdr's I have seem to use the longer lasting dye...go figure :) How old is your your burner?

I bought it in 1997.  It was the first rewriteable one I'd seen.

In PC terms that must be ancient :)

My experience has been that they only good
for a couple thousand burns before the laser gives in,
regardless of make, though the samsung burners I've been using lately have lasted the longest. About 12 months average.

My useage is much lower than that.  Much, much lower.

I burn a couple CD's daily, every design I create has to go to the bureau for positives before we can print so I really make them work. And the government controls the telecoms system so we don't really have a
cheap ISDN option as an alternative
