Lawyers.

Manufacturers' shops tend to refuse to touch anything they no longer have all
the parts to repair for legal reasons. If their tech was to drop it or lose
some unreplacable part, so that they could not repair that, they feel they
could be sued pretty heavily. Independent shops do not have that problem
because they can always blame the manufacturer for their lack of parts.

The interesting thing is often that means they are only out of one or two parts
for the item that needs repair, and the parts actually needed for a particular
repair can still be ordered to fix it yourself, or by your local repair person.

Anyway this is how it was explained to me by a Pentax Rep.

I have read somewhere before that
with some lenses, the infinity focus issue can be
fixed by unscrewing certain screws and then readjust
the lens. Does anyone know if this Sigma lens can be
fixed this way?

Usually this stuff is a case of adjustment. It is strange that Sigma refused to repair it.
