I've done it with my 990, even had a little utility, which I can't find,
that automated the process.
The more similar to the image the dark frame is the better it works. A
generic dark frame of approximately the same exposure will do about a 90%
noise correction. 

Exposure time, light level, camera temperature, number of recent exposures
effect ccd noise.
