So ... this morning I picked up a copy of Popular Photography, August
2005, for the first time in years. Ostensibly for the two page
article mentioned regarding "undocumented tips about the Pentax *ist
DS!!!" but really simply because I haven't read one in years and
wanted to verify how good or bad the rag was now.
The 10 "undocumented" tips about the *ist DS is just bullshit. Every
single one of these things is in the instruction manual.
The rest of the magazine, once you filter out the hundreds of pages
of advertisements and 'tests' which are nothing but thinly disguised
advertisements too, represents about 8 minutes of reading time, and
isn't particularly enlightening to boot. A complete waste of $5, in
my opinion, unless you consider it as good package stuffing in which
case it's a complete waste of $4.

I also picked up the latest issue of Lenswork a week ago. I've been
reading it every day since I got it, a little at a time. Few
advertisements, beautiful and interesting photographs to study,
thoughtful interviews with photographers discussing the craft and
their experiences, etc. I may actually buy a subscription ... I've
read the last four issues cover to cover and have not regretted the
purchases at all. They're worth saving.
