The word "should" is aptly used. And the *ist DS NR is not supposed to be active at any shutter speed over 1/25 second anyway.

I can confirm that the NR on the *istD is only operative below a certain speed.

I was anal enough to run a hot/dead pixel test and found a couple of hot ones, then a couple more as the shutter speed deceased (but can't remember what speeds I used) then another few - until I thought that I was in for big trouble when I got to 0.5" +.....but then they suddenly all vanished - which told me that the NR had kicked in.

I ran the test again with NR off, and the hot pixels gradually increased all the way down the speed scale (but no 'dead' ones, which is all I cared about)

Whether NR still manages to degrade the image, even when it's not actually reducing noise, is something I'm not qualified to judge - but I'll probably leave it off now, just in case.
