When shooting jpg you should set Image Tone (in Rec. Mode menu) to selection
number 2. This makes the digital processing a bit less aggressive. Don't
have the manual in front of me, so I can't explain better. 
It might also be a good idea to set saturation one step down. (I don't, but
many people do)

In fact you can leave these settings on when shooting RAW to. In RAW mode
they don't have any influence on the result.

Bob, to me they look like apples ;-).

But, really, you should at least try RAW. You'd *see* the difference!
