I don't really know about the D, but at my Ds this depends on the Custom
Setting on the camera. You can choose between 1/2 steps and 1/3 steps. Most
likely you have already read this between the lines from other posts.

I would, too, but can the camera display f/7.1? I only ever saw 5,6 - 6,7  
- 8,0 - 9 - etc. on a Pentax, in which case it's defendable to show 8,0.  
However, I'm a bit behind the latest & greatest. It could be that the *ist  
camera's show more stops than Z and MZ camera's...
