I once had a used K1000 that had in inaccurate meter. When I brought it in for 
service, I was told that later K1000s built in China sometimes had welds that 
were too cold. The welds could break, messing up an electrical contact or 
making it intermittent. I never knew what to make of this explanation, but it 
seemed credible and I had no reason not to believe it. A good tech can take 
apart your camera and check it over, rewelding if necessary. I had this done, 
and thought it then metered better. This was a few years ago, so I don't recall 
all details of how it performed after the repair. I did use it for a while, 
then traded it in.
