There are some new features in CS2 that I haven't reviewed the detail of yet, but "Merge Visible" in previous versions used to merge all currently visible layers (those layers in the layers palette that are checked as visible) into one but keep any non-visible layers separate. I use this to combine groups of layers when the layer structure has gotten a bit complicated but I want to keep the underlying data intact and unmodified.

"Flatten Image" is a master 'merge all layers' command ... you are left with only a single layer, all layer calculations have been combined into the data.

BTW: If you go to the Photoshop help and search for these facilities, you'll see a fairly extensive discussion of their function. How to use them is always "an exercise for the reader" it seems. ;-)

Hi!

Say I have two layered image - the original layer, and the high pass unsharp mask that I am about to apply...

What is the difference between "Flatten Image" and "Merge Visible" options in Layer menu of my Elements 3?

Thanks in advance.
