Because there litterally hundreds of thousands of high-end Pentax MF users world wide. The Pentax 645 dominates the Japanese MF market which is the largest in the world. Pentax have 40% market share there. In addition, so far theres no competition to this camera and it will appeal to anyone wanting better quality than 35mm can provide. Just like Pentax MF outsold Pentax film 35mm high-end cameras (admittedly very few such cameras models exists) a digital MF system will outsell a high-end K-mount DSLR; not at least because the competition is far less.
