Yes. When the original *istD was released it was as cheap as they came. It is an entry level DSLR even if it costed Nikon F5 money! As this was Pentax first and only DSLR it had to try to please all. Therefore it couldn't be dumbed too much down. It had to appeal to novices but also to long term Pentax users. Thats why it has an excellent viewfinder (for all those manual focus users) and a decent AF system. They consequently dumbed it down in order to keep up with the dropping prices for DSLR but also to give room for more expensive bodies. The *istDL, or possible successors, will have to coexist with other Pentax DSLR's. According to Pentax the *ist name is reserved (thank God) for what they consider entry level; typically ones first dslr. If they are to be believed high-end bodies will not have that stupid name.
