Nikon is at least making money. Leica Camera is having a rougher time of it.
at the moment, the recapitalization plan is still tied up in lawsuits. 4 out
of 5 apparently are willing to settle, but the 5th isn't. if Leica formally
has to declare bankruptcy, it's going to be very rough. even before the
lawsuits, the major shareholder insisted that they find a partner or sell
the camera division, retaining only sport optics and lens design. so far, no
takers on partnering, although Panasonic seems to still be buying lens
designs, if not actual lenses.
