Dave,

I don't know Nfld at all, never having been there.  Like you, I've
heard that Gros Mourne is supposed to be stunningly beautiful.  St.
John's is supposed to be a lovely, vibrant city.

Sounds like you'll have a great time.  Do try some Iceberg Vodka and
Screech, and let us know how much fun you've had!  <g>
