Will have the opportunity to take a couple pictures of old trains

I'm planning on taking both my ist-D and KX (or MX) for B&W but not
sure about both lenses and B&W film to use.
Lenses:
I guess my SMCP 30mm would be nice.
Zoom or primes? Only have FA 50/1.4 as AF prime.
Film:
HP5, TriX, FP4, TMax or Neopan? Really not enough experience in B&W yet...
Would a tripod be of any use? Don't think so...
My thoughts for what they're worth:
You need to figure out what intrigues you about trains and then come up
with a plan to capture those qualities.
If it's their massive size then you might consider a wide angle lens and
a low vantage point.
If it's their bright colors then B&W film might not work so well <G>.
If it's the interesting machinery inherent in those old trains then you
can use just about any lens in your bag. You could be shooting in dark
places and looking for a lot of depth of field so a tripod could be useful.
My advice is to think about what you want to capture and then figure out
how to do it. Exploring other websites with train pictures might give
you some ideas.
