I read somewhere that the wider the max. aperture of a lens, the harder to
design (obviously). But it not follows a linear growth of dificulty. With
each f stop you add, the aberrations and problems grow in potential terms,
heavily. And also with the a.o.v., the wider the angle of view, the harder
to correct the aberrations (It's way better explained in the great Leica
page, from Mr. Putt wich url escapes me now). If you want to go hard,
design a fast wideangle, the wider and faster the better.
