Thanks to all who responded to this thread. Based on what everyone here said and what I've found on line, I think I'll go for the Sony DCR-HC90. It's a mini DV model with a 3.3 megapixel CCED of 1/3 inch dimension. It also has good low light capability, which is important to me.
