I recall seeing this before, and I like it just as much now as I did then. For reasons I can't articulate, I like that we can't see the body or face of the fellow whose shoes are being shined. The cigar smoker, staring off into the distance, apparently waiting his turn, is wonderfully captured. For some reason, he reminds me of Daddy Warbucks in the Annie comic strips (probably the cigar). Love the mirror on the wall reflecting the calendar - it's a perfect "foil" for the composition as it balances the rest of the frame so beautifully.
