The *only* way to ensure that your work will persist through time is to publish it. NO photographic recording media lasts forever. Good, archival process prints can last a while, both silver-gelatin and quality inkjet, based on the quality of the paper (and ink) used and the conditions of storage. But even those processes have their limits.

Printed books will outlast most other paper-based media, particularly if they become part of a library collection, if cared for properly. Published works that are digitized and placed into some large body of auto-backed up, auto-replicated storage facilities have the potential to last "forever" without degradation.
