Actually, f16 and be there, in this case <g>.  I was shooting at
either 1/30th or 1/60th @ f16, so I could hyperfocus from about 3.5
feet to 25 feet.  I knew since I was panning, that a sharp background
wouldn't be an issue.

Thanks.  I certainly thought it was a "stand alone" photo, but the
story didn't hurt anything, or rather it possibly improved it.

Yeah, I noticed that trailing foot, too.  I wish it were all in there,
but if I had to choose one, I'm glad it was the lead foot we can see. 
My other gripe about the pic is that I wish I'd have snapped just a
bit earlier, while he was in profile, so we could see his face a bit
more.

All things considered, though, I was lucky to grab it at all!  <vbg>
