Bill, A few folks I know are using the Bogen/Manfrotto heavy duty geared head with good results. I've used a smaller version and I liked it for its precision and ease of adjustment, especially when using longer and bigger glass. Check B&H for geared heads - Bogen makes three models, iirc.
