Most images don't deserve to live as long as the medium anyway.
A few years ago, I was asked by the local governmant archives people to print some old negs for them. They desired pretty persnickety handling of them. So down I went to the archived building, they handed me a metal storage box and off I went home.
With a box of 8x10 nitrate negatives from the turn of the last century.
Pictures of Indian Chiefs of the day, sitting for portraits by some now forgotten photographer. I thought one of them was Sitting Bull, but a quick history check makes this pretty unlikely, nitrate film was introduced in 1889, he died in 1890.
