Maybe IBM/Hitachi drives but not necessarily all types. For instance I opened up a regular 3.5" Fujitsu desk-top drive that whilst it appeared to have an head assembly parking magnet and even though the drive was shut down appropriately (I powered it down as working before I took the lid off) the heads remained in the midst of the platter. The heads in the big server IBM drive that I opened were definitely parked in the centre of the platters.
