I just recently extended from screw mount into K-mount Pentax gear, and
I'm wondering what is so special about the pancake 40mm lens. Frankly
spoken, I think it's just the glass you would find in any
point-and-shoot: a bit on the wide side, not that fast, mucht depth of
field and compact. I wonder why it is relatively expensive (OK, call me
cheap), if you look at this specs? In general, it looks like lenses are
paid for the amount of glass (or the special design of the glass) they
hold, but none of that in the pancake. I even can't imagine it's very
practical in use.
Or does it hold a precious and ingenious design feature I cannot
understand?
It is quite compact.
Other than that, it's OK, but I wouldn't want my daughter to marry one.
