Remember, though we here on the PDML all know the true value of an LX, to a
pawn shop or a "fence" (buyer and reseller of stolen goods) it's just an
old
camera. My Nikon F bodies have great value to me because I bought them
new,
but they are still over 30 years old. The LX is a 20+ year old camera.
Thieves may not be smart enough to know this and they probably won't return
the stuff to you when they find out but it's only worth what a buyer (you,
in this case) is willing to pay for it. If the thief was only trying to
feed himself and his family I wouldn't feel too bad about it. If, like
here
in the USA, he wanted it to buy his next day's drugs, I'd be pretty upset.
Len
Hi, Len.
In my message I was always speaking about the value for me. I know for most
people is just an old camera (I met a Nikonian "pro" who asked for the use
of my Manfrotto tripod. He was so pro that he forgot his own tripod. He saw
my LX and told me: Oh, yes, Pentax... This russian old cameras are
great...)
I always speak about the value for me. I know if I get them stolen, I will
never see a LX again. The numbers I gave about quantities is right. In fact
one of mines was bought from usa from a list member.
Also, believe me most "fences" (used equipment stores here are in this
class, in the thin red line. You never know their sources) know and praise
the LX here. It's the only reputed Pentax.
Thiefs obviously didn't recognize it. But they usually didn't recognize any
model or brand. Maybe they know Nikon is well payed, who knows... Here, a
SLR is synonimous of Professional Camera, and it's true. Even the cheaper
Zenit is called Professional.
And if my equipment is stolen, I would feel really bad, no matter the
purpose of the thief. I took me a lot of effort to find some of my lenses,
ans specially the LXs that as I told you IS a rarity here. Not a famous
rarity, but a rarity anyway.
Regards
Albano
