I used to use two monitors, both 4:3 format ... tools and palettes on the second monitor and the main monitor for the image, but with a 20" cinema presentation there seems plenty of room on the main screen for either horizontal or vertical oriented photos and all the tools and palettes. A big 4:3 monitor seems to get more crowded ... Had a 4:3 proportion 17" for a bit and it was nicer for displaying photos but less useful for editing.

A couple of weeks ago I switched off one of my screens to see if I could cope with a Cinema Display (I'm eyeing up the 23" model). I normally work with a pair of 19" CRTs, each set to 1600x1200. Image on one screen, toolboxes and other stuff on the secondary screen.

I've set the single screen to 1920x1200 and used the on-screen controls to get the aspect ratio right. The bad news is that I am finding it difficult to cope. The toolboxes are really getting in the way. Boy would that 30" monster be nice... :)
