This thread has got me thinking about how I use flash. I have the latest and greatest from the Big C but, I have all focus assist options turned off. I mean that funny red light that blasts out from the flash? Turned off. If I use AF. I let the camera focus as normal. If it's too dark to focus, I use manual and do my best. I'm always stopped down with flash so DOF helps. I tend to use a wide angle for pap-snaps and just set an optimal distance and fire away without worrying about the focus. The flash calculates the amount of light needed to expose the scene properly with a pre-flash, and then fires the main flash instantly. These things happen for all intents and purposes, at the same time, so there is no shutter lag. When I use a camera, my left hand does the sorting out, and my right fires the button, and when that button is fired, I expect it to do so without any delay. I can't be doing with lights going on and off distracting the subject. Cheers, Cotty ___/\__ || (O) | People, Places, Pastiche ||=====| http://www.cottysnaps.com _____________________________
