OK, so after all this talk about crappy mail-order service, let me rave
about KEH for a moment. Half an hour ago I received my shiny new (to me)
SMCP-FA* 400 f/4.5 lens.

The item was shipped overnight for a reasonable $28, got here on time, and
was exaclty as described (EX). The service was excellent, and the people
courteous and helpful, emailing me the FedEx tracking number right after
they shipped.

First impressions: AF is fast and accurate (as judged thru viewfinder of
Z1p), despite the large size of the focusing element. The MF action is
quite good, with quite a large amount of travel on the focusing ring. The
front cap can't be put on or removed when the hood is on (Dear Pentax: take
a lesson in cap design from Tamron!), but the hood itself is very
serviceable and ringed witih thick rubber on the distal end, handy to
prevent dings upon placing the thing on the ground. The tripod collar has
helpful detents at the right angle spots, making it easy to square the
camera and lens to the tripod. The brachet itself may be too close to the
camera to allow use of a tripod with the grip strap of the Z1p; this is a
problem I have with my Tokina 80-200 as well. The lens came with a soft
case and shoulder strap; neither look like they have ever been used.

I want to use it with a Tamron 2X TC sometimes, but for now I just want to
play with the lens itself and see how it performs.
